In 2013, Javier Bathen made a bold move, leaving behind a successful corporate career in Guatemala to join forces with his siblings and create Maypro, a promotional products business and a supplier of flooring and tiling solutions. With a background at prestigious companies like Kimberly-Clark and Tigo, Javier brought invaluable experience to the table. However, he quickly discovered that running a family business presented an entirely different set of challenges and opportunities.

Navigating the Challenges

By 2021, Maypro was poised for expansion, with plans to open new retail locations and warehouses. However, the company faced significant hurdles, including supply chain disruptions, price spikes, and fluctuating demand. Javier decided to join Bpeace’s Maximizer Forward program where he was matched with Skillanthropist John Stewart, an industry specialist in sales activation. 

Transforming Maypro

Under the guidance of Bpeace and John Stewart, Maypro implemented several key changes:

  1. Streamlined Sales Process: By developing a more efficient sales process, Maypro improved its ability to meet customer needs and capture new opportunities.
  2. CRM Platform Implementation: The introduction of a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform enhanced the company’s ability to manage customer interactions and data effectively.
  3. Improved Company Culture: Javier focused on building a positive company culture by organizing regular team meetings, offering salary increases, forming a soccer team, and creating open forums for idea generation. These initiatives fostered a sense of community and encouraged innovation within the company.

Achieving Remarkable Growth

The efforts of Javier and his team, combined with the support from Bpeace, led to remarkable outcomes. In 2022 alone, Maypro experienced an astounding 74% revenue growth and created four new jobs. The company is now preparing to open a showroom in Guatemala City, a testament to its solid foundation, enhanced sales processes, and commitment to continuous improvement.

Javier’s vision for Maypro extends beyond financial success. His purpose in creating the company was threefold: to leave a legacy for his children, to provide them with financial security, and to give them the opportunity to work on something meaningful one day. With Maypro’s recent achievements and future potential, Javier is closer than ever to realizing these goals.
